Cassidi joined the Royal Navy in 1938. He served in HMS Cumberland and HMS Hardy with the Iceland Patrols and Russian Convoys during World War II and also took part in the Normandy landings.

He became Commanding Officer of 820 Naval Air Squadron in 1954 and of HMS Whitby in 1960.<Actinic:Variable Name = '1'/> He went on to be Assistant Director of Naval Plans (Warfare) in the Ministry of Defence in 1964 and Commanding Officer of HMS Undaunted in 1967.<Actinic:Variable Name = '1'/> In 1970 he returned to the Ministry of Defence as the Director of Naval Plans.
He became Commanding Officer of HMS Ark Royal in 1972 and Flag Officer Aircraft Carriers and Amphibious Ships in 1974.<Actinic:Variable Name = '2'/> He went on to be Director-General Naval Manpower and Training in 1975 and Flag Officer Naval Air Command in 1978.<Actinic:Variable Name = '2'/> He then became Second Sea Lord and Chief of Naval Personnel in 1979 and Commander-in-Chief Naval Home Command in 1982.<Actinic:Variable Name = '2'/> He retired in 1985.

Concorde 002. The first British assembled prototype took the air on 9th April 1969 from Filton landing at Fairford Glos, subsequently its base. Registered out of sequence G - BSST ( Indicating British Supersonic Transport ) it represents an important milestone in Anglo - French collaboration to provide a Mach 2 airliner utilising conventional light alloys in the main,and exploiting the combination of good high speed/low speed qualities of a slender delta wing.
After completing its development task of 83518 hours in the air ( 437 flights, 196 of them supersonic ) Mr Brain Trubshaw and his crew from BAC delivered the Aeroplane to RNAS Yeovilton on 4th March 1976, this cover is issued to mark the occasion of Concorde 002 transfer to a permanent berth alongside the FAA Museum, where it is to be on display to the public.
