RNCH12b 50th Anniv Sicily Falling to the Allies Signed 4 17 Aug 93 BFPS 2360 50th Anniv Sicily Falling to the Allies Personally Signed by General Sir Ian Gourlay CDO HMS Formidable Brigadier Alastair Pearson CB DSO*** OBE MC TD. 8 Para Bn Pegasus Bridge 6th June 1944 Pearson was attached to the South Lancashire Regiment and served briefly in France during January 1940. On 8 June 1940, after the end of Operation Dynamo, he returned to France with the 6th HLI. He fought in the Battle of France with the Second British Expeditionary Force. He was evacuated on 17th June as part of Operation ArielGeneral Sir John Hackett G.C.B.,CBE.,D.S.O.,M.C. when he took part in the disastrous parachute landing on Arnhem in Holland, where the Germans were waiting. On the day before the survivors of the 1st Airborne Division were pulled out of Arnhem, Hackett was severely injured internally by a shell splinter. He was taken to a German military hospital and operated on by a captured Allied surgeon, but was regarded as a hopeless case and marked down for kindly hypodermic euthanasia.On the first day he sat up to eat, a member of the Resistance told him that unless he could walk out in the next 15 minutes, he might not be able to get out at all. He escaped with his head in blood-soaked bandages to suggest a civilian air-raid casualty, and was hidden by a Dutch family at risk to their lives.Later, he escaped by bicycle to freedom, his skill at languages enabling him to pass challenges from guards en route and 3 resistance members who helped the BrigadierAir Vice Marshal Sir Laurence Frank Sinclair GC, KCB, CBE, DSO & Bar (13 June 1908 - 14 May 2001) was awarded the George Cross for rescuing a severely injured airman from a crashed and burning plane.Certified Copy No 35 of 62.

(The Americans had been given a demonstration of beach marking techniques by the X-Craft but had declined their help, trusting the accuracy of their navigation. Battle of Britain Fighter Pilot He was promoted 3 Sept 1940, later in the month he was wounded and hospitalised. In May 1941, Gibson was posted and returned to flying as a Flight commander with 457 Sqn Royal Australian Air Force. Gibson was posted to New Zealand joined 15 Sqn of the Royal New Zealand Air Force and went to Tonga flew Kittyhawks as a flight commander.Gibson returned to New Zealand in December 1942 and attended a course at the Staff College in April 1943. In December 1943, he rejoined 15 Squadron at New Georgia in the Solomon Islands as Commanding Officer.Attached to United States Navy Guadcanel 1942 - 44, Return to Europe and joined 80 Sqn flying the Hawker Tempest, and was again shot down and injured in March 1945.[ After recovering,transferred to the RNZAF on 1 December 1945Edward Kenna VC Victoria Cross holder 2/4th ( N.S.W. )Australian Military Forces.Won VC 1945 in New Guinea. was the last living Australian Second World War recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest decoration for gallantry "in the face of the enemy" that can be awarded to members of the British and Commonwealth armed forces.Kenneth Ambrose Walsh was the fourth ranking United States Marine Corps Fighter Ace in WW11 with 21 enemy planes destroyed.At the time of the attack on pearl Harbour, he was a technical sergeant, becoming a Warrant Office in May 1942, and was commissioned a year later. He was also one of a handful of Marine aviators qualified as an aircraft carrier landing signal officer.Assigned to VMF -124, flew in 1st Vought F4U Corsair Sqn. The unit arrived at Guadalcanal in February 1943 He claimed his first three Japanese planes on April 1, 1943 and two more in his next combat, May 13, 1943, becoming the first Corsair ace.Walsh brought his score to 20 by the end of August 1943, he earned him the Medal of Honor.Walsh returned to combat in 1945, flying with VMF -222, scoring his last Victory l at Okinawa on June 22, 1945. £24.95
